Squiggly Career Summer School: Values

As part of our commitment to making careers better for everyone, this year we’ve opened up our Squiggly Career Summer School and we’re running a series of live sessions on Instagram to share tool and tips to support career development.

Week 1 was all about knowing your values and putting them into action.

Values are what makes you, you. They are the things that motivate and drive you.

When you know what your values are you can make braver career decisions, build better relationships and find more fulfilment at work.

You can start to spot clues about what your values might be in 3 ways:

  1. Look back to move forward – reflect on the happiest and hardest moments in your career and think about the who, what, why and where of those moments. Write down your reflections and look for consistencies.
  2. Coach yourself questions – ask yourself, what’s most important to you about who, what and where you work. See what themes emerge in your answers.
  3. Visualise your values – collect images that emotionally resonate with you. Don’t question it to begin with, but when you have a number of images take a step back and think about what they represent for you.
